Reflection (Week 2a)-Assignment 1(Think,Pair,Share)

On this week, our task is to write an article regarding 10 topics that our lecturer had given to us. We were told to divide ourselves into groups, in which one group consist of a pair. For my group, our topic is about mobile learning. My partner and I divide the task together so that we can find our own resources and thus we just have to combine our article at the end.
Mobile learning is one of the ways that our society used in this modern era of technology. In this century, learning is no more restricted inside a classroom because our technology had enabled us to learn in any place that we like at anytime. Mobile learning is a way of learning which uses gadget or devices which is portable so that we can bring it to anywhere that makes us more convenient to learn. Examples of these devices are such as laptop, netbook, smartphones and etc. In Malaysia, we can see that mobile learning is mainly used in our institute of higher education.
The history of mobile learning started during the 1970’s, by Alan Kay an American computer scientist who proposes the idea of learning using a Dynabooks. The idea was not really established but it had led to the creation of laptop that we are using nowadays.
As a student myself, I felt that mobile learning is quite useful as it varies our ways of learning. We can be very flexible in our learning and thus we can manage our own time that suits us the most. For the adult learners, personally I think that this method had lightened their workloads as some of them are working and studying part time. It is never easy to manage our own time for work and studying but by using mobile learning it had made us enable to work and study at the same time without losing our credibility and quality in doing our task.
Mobile devices that we are having nowadays can also be used to enhance our learning style because we can access our information, files, attachments, etc. via our mobile phones, tablet pc and other devices. Blackberry, Iphones, smart phone and android phones are some examples of mobile devices which can helps us when we are using mobile learning.

However, there is still downside in using mobile learning as a replacement for the teaching in classroom. One of the disadvantages is you need to keep up with the technology by replacing the devices that you are having because technology changes and advance rapidly. Adding to that, we also need to pay the monthly fees for using the internet services and for some of the applications that we are using. The second reason is that the size for the device is quite small and they can be easily stolen and they can also straining our eyes when we are using it for a long period of time, considering the size of the screen. We need to be careful when we are using these devices as sometimes it can affect our health.

As a conclusion, mobile learning is very helpful in enhancing our studies. It is very important for us to use any possible methods or ways that we can in order for us to grow and achieve success and mobile learning had enabled us to attain it. Hopefully, mobile learning will be improved in years to come so that, every students can use it in helping their education.
